Thompson Ogunsanmi is a specialist with extensive experience in working as an agricultural development consultant and advisor for the past 12 years in training and strategic planning, administration, and development of operational plans, gender mainstreaming and value chains. Countries worked in include Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Burkina Faso, and recently Kenya.
He has management experience in professional organizations in the agri-food sector, implementation of monitoring and evaluation of projects. He worked as Value Chain Advisor with German Development Cooperation (GIZ), using Value Links approach for development of commodity specific value chains for many years, worked on contractual basis International Training Centre, an ILO Centre in Turin (Italy).
Currently working with International Centre for Soli Fertility and Agricultural Development (IFDC), as National Cluster Advisor and Country Coordinator for the IFDC, Directorate General for International Cooperation of Netherlands (DGIS) funded 2SCALE project where he provides advisory and coordinating roles in development of competitive rural agricultural systems, viable agro-enterprises and the use of public-private partnerships, CASE and Value Chain approaches. This has made him to constantly relate with International Center for Development-Oriented Research in Agriculture (ICRA) and Base of the Pyramid Innovation Center (BoP Innovation Center).
He has participated in many USAID funded projects, grassroots’ based NGO’s, commodity specific associations, and cooperatives. His core expertise areas include Entrepreneurship, Value Chain Development, Business Management, Community Development, Business and Policy Advocacy; Market and Product Development, Gender Analysis and Mainstreaming, Market and Enterprise Development, Strategic and Business Skills Planning, Training, Coaching and Capacity Building, Commodity Development, Cluster Development and Group/Cooperative Formation.
He holds a Master in Business Administration (with specialization in entrepreneurship) and completed numerous course works in Agricultural Technology, Enterprise Development and Crop & Pest Management. He is a certified Value Chain Trainer. He has written many publications/papers, including subjects on value chain interventions and promotion; sustainable development, etc.
