KRAIN, Dr. Eberhard

Retired from GIZ in 2020 and since then available as short-term freelance consultant in the fields of agriculture and rural development.

Eberhard Krain has been working for more than 35 years in long- and short-term assignments in technical and research cooperation projects in several countries in Africa (Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Sambia and Tanzania) and Asia (Indonesia and Bangladesh), mostly for GIZ/GTZ.

He is an agricultural socio-economist by profession, well conversant with value chain promotion, standards and rural development as well a seasoned trainer cum moderator.

During the last years he worked especially along the theme of living income and established a methodology to determine living income reference prices – prices for agricultural commodities that enable smallholders a decent life serving as benchmark vis-à-vis prevailing prices. Since June 2020 he is in retirement and offers his services part-time as a freelance consultant.
