Ute Jacob works as a Senior Project Officer in AFC Headquarters (AFC Consultants International GmbH, Bonn). Since 2003, she is in charge of project development, submission, management and backstopping for different clients such as GTZ, KfW, UE, AfDB, IFAD, MCA, DEZA, Lux Development, etc., working mainly in French-speaking African countries.
Her fields of specialisation encompass Advice to Farmers’ Organisations, Organisational Development, Regional Development (Rural Development, Natural Resource Management, Decentralisation) and Value chain development.
Her main background is on agriculture and regional economic development. After having obtained a BSc in Agricultural Sciences from the Georg August University of Göttingen, Ute Jacob started her profes-sional career as a Project Assistant for Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) in a Regional Development Project in Burundi. After that, she worked 3 years as a Technical Assistant in the same project. Immediately after this filed experience, she went back to Berlin University to undertake a PhD research on small scale farming systems in Burundi. In 1994, she defended her dissertation and obtained the PhD degree. One year later, she started working for AFC / DLG Agriservice, and spent 8 years in Morocco as a Mission Leader of a project entitled “Strengthening a National Livestock Breeders Organisation – ANOC” implemented on behalf of GTZ.
In value chain development Ute Jacob specialises on training sessions in French speaking countries. She worked on the development of value chains for the following sectors: fruit tree production, animal production, food processing (fruits and vegetables).
Her regional experience covers Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Chad, Guinea Conakry, Benin, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania.
